Pennywort Café
A warm, appetising site for an independent café, built around the three things visitors look for first: the menu, the opening hours and where to find it.
Pennywort Café is a fictional business. This project was designed to demonstrate how Cyrios Sites approaches a website for this type of business. It is not client work.

The scenario
Pennywort is a fictional independent café on Wendover High Street, popular with walkers heading up into the Chilterns. In this scenario the owner wants a website that answers the questions people usually phone up to ask: is it open, what’s on the menu, and where exactly is it?
The approach
Most café visitors are on a phone and in a hurry, so the page leads with today’s opening hours and a button straight to the menu. The full menu sits on the page as real text with prices, not a PDF or an image of a chalkboard. That keeps it readable on small screens and visible to search engines.
The visit section puts the address, phone number and weekly hours together beside a map, so everything needed to turn up is in one place.
Design decisions
- Warm, food-led palette. Cream, forest green and terracotta feel welcoming and suit a café without leaning on stock photography.
- A characterful serif. Fraunces gives headings personality, with a clean sans-serif keeping menus and hours easy to scan.
- Menu as a priced list. Dotted leaders link each item to its price, the way a printed menu does.
- Strong section colours. Each part of the page has its own background, so it’s easy to tell where you are while scrolling on a phone.
